Meeting Theme: Safety, Efficacy, and Innovations, including the use of Artificial Intelligence in Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine

On behalf of Dr. David Provenzano and the entire ASRA Pain Medicine team, I am delighted to invite you to the 50th Annual Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Meeting. Join us for a landmark 50th Anniversary Annual Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Meeting, which will occur from May 1 to 3, 2025, at the prestigious Rosen Shingle Creek in Orlando, FL.

Scientific Program Highlights

Main Program

The conference theme is safety, efficacy, and innovations in Regional Anesthesia. It will feature a Special Session with a lecture from Prof. Anand Rao on How Artificial Intelligence Will Change Healthcare. We will have multiple plenary sessions on evolving applications of point-of-care ultrasound, including talks on the potential of gastric ultrasound, innovative POCUS techniques for ACLS success, and the expansion of POCUS horizons.

We will bring together leading organizations in pain medicine in a session that includes updates from ASA, ESRA, AOSRA-PM, LASRA, and AFSRA, covering topics such as peri-op management of patients with complex regional pain syndrome, Luer lock devices in regional anesthesia, and the impact of sex and gender on post-operative pain. A session on Enhancing Outcomes through Precision and Innovation will feature presentations on the role of artificial intelligence, regional anesthesia's impact on cancer outcomes, and its potential to improve functional recovery and patient experience.

We will cover the latest updates on infection control, nomenclature, buprenorphine, and cannabis guidelines. This session will inform you about the most current best practices and standards in the field. Anesthesia Safety will address crucial topics such as nerve blocks for professional athletes and musicians, navigating peripheral nerve blocks safely, and the ongoing debate on mixing local anesthetics. These discussions will be complemented by a panel discussion and open forum, offering insights and encouraging interaction.

We will have a session on cutting-edge innovations in regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine. This session will highlight groundbreaking topics such as neuraxial ultrasound imaging, cryo-neurolysis application from science to practice, and innovative therapies for acute pain. We will delve into comparative discussions on neuraxial versus truncal blocks and handling rebound pain after peripheral nerve blocks. These topics will enhance your clinical decision-making skills and patient care strategies.

A session on controversies will feature debates on opioid-free anesthesia, the pros and cons of spinal anesthesia, and other contentious issues in the field. Engage with experts in the panel discussions to broaden your perspective on these critical topics.

The RAPM Top Papers Session will highlight the top articles from 2024-25, featuring groundbreaking research that has significantly impacted practice in basic science, pediatric, and obstetric anesthesia. Engage in the panel discussion and open forum to discuss these pivotal studies and their implications for our field. Further, we will have live demonstrations of upper and lower limb block techniques, neuraxial and paravertebral ultrasound techniques, and comprehensive ultrasound demos of cardiac, gastric, and FAST scans. Additionally, we will showcase thoracic and abdominal wall blocks, providing a rich learning experience.

A session on debates in regional anesthesia and acute pain will feature lively debates on critical topics, such as the best approaches for thoracic surgery—comparing paravertebral blocks and erector spinae plane blocks. In addition, we will have parallel moderated and non-moderated poster sessions throughout the meeting showcasing recent studies and challenging clinical cases.

Problem-Based Learning Discussions

We will have more than 30 Problem-Based Learning Discussions (PBLDs)! We are thrilled to offer a diverse and comprehensive array of topics designed to enhance your knowledge, skills, and professional development. These will include topics like

  • GLP-1 Agonists - Implications for Anesthesia and the Role of Gastric Ultrasound
