Perioperative and Outpatient Management of Patients with Substance Use Disorder Symposium

Saturday, December 9, 2023, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm ET | Virtual

Join the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine and the Opioid Safety and Substance Use Disorder Special Interest Group (SIG) for the Perioperative and Outpatient Management of Patients with Substance Use Disorder Symposium, a one-day program designed for all members of the health care team!

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to learn from well-known experts in the field on the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative management and support of the substance use disorder (SUD) patient.

This symposium meets the requirements for the Medication Access and Training Expansion (MATE) Act.

The MATE Act, which was passed as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2023, requires a one-time, eight-hour training for Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA)-registered physicians and practitioners on treating and managing patients with opioid or other substance use disorders. On or after June 27, 2023, physicians and practitioners will need to check a box on their online DEA registration form confirming they have completed the new eight-hour training requirement. This will need to be done regardless of whether they are first-time registrants or renewing their registration.

Register by December 9, 2023,  to receive access to recordings and obtain CME credit (up to 10.5 hours of CME available). Content will be available for one year after the event.

As SUDs become more prevalent, health care professionals from all fields now interact with and are required to care for patients with these diagnoses. This symposium intends to bridge the knowledge gap that many health professionals face in treating patients with SUD in the perioperative period or the chronic pain clinic. Participants will benefit from a deeper understanding of risk factors for SUD and best practices for patients with SUD in the acute and chronic phases of care.

After attending this one-day virtual event, you’ll be ready to implement new approaches or augment your efforts to address and manage chronic pain after surgery.
