Several special interest groups (SIGs) will hold a SIGnificant Session in conjunction with the 23rd Annual Pain Medicine Meeting in Las Vegas. These meetings are in-person only. Be sure to mark your calendar!
Thursday, November 21
- 1:30 pm – 2:30 pm: Neuromodulation: Panel on Neuromodulation for Chronic Cancer Pain (Pisa/Palermo Room).
Join us to discuss spinal cord and peripheral nerve stimulation, intrathecal pumps, and establishing neuromodulation within a cancer pain practice.
- 2:30 pm – 3:30 pm: Perioperative Medicine: Emerging Therapy Using Autologous Fat Grafting for Treatment of Chronic Post-Operative Pain (Turin Room).
Learn more about the Perioperative Medicine SIG's work and understand the prevalence of chronic post-operative pain and how fat grafting is used to treat chronic post-operative pain.
- 3:45 pm – 4:45 pm: Ultrasonography in Pain Medicine: Recent Advances on Ultrasound-Guided Joint Denervation Techniques and New Neural Targets in Pain Medicine (Pisa/Palermo Room).
This session will present the sonoanatomy of neural targets and discuss ultrasound-guided techniques for hip and shoulder denervation and specific peripheral nerves.
Friday, November 22
- 9:00 am – 10:00 am: Functional and Integrative Medicine: Integrative Medicine in the Management of Chronic and Cancer Pain (Pisa/Palermo Room).
This session will review what every pain doctor should know and also provide an introduction to the applicability and need for functional- and integrative-pain-management-based approaches in chronic and cancer pain.
- 10:30 am – 11:30 am: Opioid Safety and Substance Use Disorder: Talking to Patients About Discontinuing Opioids and Initiating Buprenorphine (Turin Room).
By the end of this session, participants will be able to anticipate patient scenarios that will result in challenging conversations, apply clinical pearls and specific verbiage to reduce the stress of challenging conversations about discontinuation of opioids, and prescribe an appropriate initial buprenorphine analgesic regimen.
- 11:30 am – 12:30 pm: Private Practice: Exploring Private Practice Career Pathways in Pain Medicine (Pisa/Palermo Room).
This session will include discussions around contract negotiations, hybrid positions in academics and private practice, considerations of joining a group vs. starting a practice vs. joining a private practice, and PM&R practice models.
- 4:00 pm – 5:00 pm: Cannabis in Acute and Chronic Pain: Rescheduling Cannabis: Implications for Researchers and Clinicians (Pisa/Palermo Room).
Join us to understand the regulatory challenges of conducting clinical trials of cannabis, both as a Schedule I and Schedule III drug. Discuss the possible implications of re-scheduling on patient access to non medical ("recreational").
Saturday, November 23
- 10:30 am -11:30 am: Regenerative Pain Medicine: The Latest FDA Regulations on Regenerative Medicine Treatments (Pisa/Palermo).
This session will summarize the most recent FDA regulations related to regenerative medicine treatments, discuss the responsibilities of healthcare providers and researchers in adhering to ethical standards while complying with regulatory requirements, and explore the future directions of regenerative medicine in light of current FDA regulations.
