Physicians applying for a fellowship program in regional anesthesiology/acute pain medicine must be currently enrolled in, or have completed, an accredited anesthesiology residency program. Each individual program may have additional requirements such as medical licensing. The information published here has been supplied by the individual institutions. University of New Mexico

Starting with the 2026-2027 academic year, we will transition to offering two non-ACGME fellowship positions.

This shift allows us to offer a highly competitive salary—upwards of $180,000+ for the academic year—making this an ideal opportunity for colleagues looking to master advanced regional techniques while maintaining a strong compensation (we are still nailing down all the details).

The Clinical Experience: The curriculum is designed for high-yield clinical exposure and autonomy:

Days/Week: Dedicated Regional Anesthesia at OSIS or APS (other rotations later in the year).

2 Days/Week: Faculty/Attending shifts (likely split between CCT and OSIS in block-centric rooms).

Call & Moonlighting: Fellows will cover one weekend per month on the APS service. All other weekends are yours—either to enjoy off or to utilize for moonlighting at our standard attending call rates (OB or Trauma 12hr or 24hr).

Why pursue this fellowship? Our program is exceptionally high-volume; fellows historically perform well over 1,000 blocks annually. As our department’s needs grow at OSIS, SRMC, and within the APS service, there is a premium on anesthesiologists who can independently manage catheters and complex nerve blocks. Furthermore, increasing our "regional-savvy" faculty directly enhances our residency and APP teaching programs and provides for better patient care.

Several of our current faculty completed fellowships here under this model and found it to be a transformative experience that expanded their skill sets and career trajectories in a rapidly advancing field.
