We are proud to be one of the 9 pioneering regional anesthesia fellowship programs in the United States to receive the very first inaugural ACGME accreditation in 2017. This represents an ongoing testament to our commitment to academic excellence and leadership development for our fellow.
Our comprehensive one-year fellowship is structured to graduate innovative academic and clinical leaders in regional anesthesiology with a global perspective on managing perioperative pain. Our fellow receives vast clinical exposure to neuraxial and peripheral nerve blockade including blocks of the head and neck, upper and lower extremities, and chest and trunk, with nerve-stimulator, ultrasound-guided, and continuous catheter techniques. Our fellow supervises and performs over 4,000 peripheral nerve blocks annually, with 800 of these blocks involving nerve catheters. Our 7 expert practicing regional anesthesia faculty along with 6 pain management attendings contribute to a robust clinical service as well as our clinical research and mentoring programs. Our fellow has two protected non-clinical days a week conducting clinical trials and advancing their supervision and teaching skills. The fellow has tremendous opportunities to shape biweekly didactic programs and workshops for residents, to lead in the development and establishment of our subspecialty, and to expand our practice into other surgical settings such as pediatric, trauma, perioperative ultrasound use, and international missions. The regional fellow also represents the department as an integral force participating in numerous departmental and hospital committees to formulate clinical standards and pathways to optimize patient outcomes.
In addition, academic involvement in major international conferences such as the ASA, PGA, and ASRA, with presentation of abstracts and workshops are strongly encouraged and supported. Fellow has no attending or call responsibilities. Moonlighting opportunities available along with overtime pay. Opportunities to moonlight/take call on weekends at Mount Sinai Affiliate Hospitals. Our two hospital sites deliver services for the culturally diverse communities of the Upper West Side and West Midtown of Manhattan. WE offer guaranteed subsidized housing across the street from Mount Sinai West, within walking distance to Lincoln Center, Columbus Circle and Central Park.
We are seeking enthusiastic, vibrant, intelligent, collegial, and compassionate individuals with leadership potentials and unique visions for the future of our subspecialty.

The NYU Langone Health (NYULH) Regional Anesthesia fellowship is an ACGME-accredited one-year program intended to train physicians to safely and efficiently employ regional anesthesia techniques in their practice. Our goal is to produce excellent clinicians with superior technical skills, an understanding of the current state of knowledge, and the ability to become future teachers, investigators, and leaders in the field.
Clinical training will primarily occur at the NYU Langone Orthopedic Hospital, a leading center for the treatment of orthopedic disease. There, the fellow, under the guidance of our diverse and dynamic staff, will gain proficiency in providing surgical anesthesia and postoperative analgesia for orthopedic procedures. Fellows will also rotate at our ambulatory orthopedic surgical center, as well as at the NYULH flagship hospital, Tisch Hospital, allowing fellows the opportunity to apply regional anesthesiology to the gamut of surgical specialties, e.g., truncal blocks. NYU Hospital - Brooklyn is a Level 1 Trauma Center.
Didactics include a monthly lecture series on important topics in regional anesthesia, as well as a CME accredited Grand Rounds/Case Conference. Monthly journal clubs are held, and the fellow will have the opportunity to present and supervise the presentations of junior residents.
Involvement in research is strongly encouraged and fellows will have time to either begin an original project under the supervision of a staff anesthesiologist or to participate in an ongoing project. Fellows are also encouraged to participate in academic endeavors, such as book chapters or poster presentations, and may attend one conference of their choice.
Completion of an Accredited Anesthesiology Residency is required.

The Ochsner Fellowship program in Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine (RAAPM) is a one year program. Our faculty consists of nine RAAPM fellowship trained Anesthesiologists. While we do blocks for Orthopedic surgery cases, we also do them for Thoracic, General, Vascular, and Pediatric cases as well. These blocks include both peripheral and neuraxial, single shot and continuous, for inpatients and outpatients. Fellows have an opportunity to participate in all of these procedures, including our home catheter program.
Additionally, we have a Perioperative Surgical Home program for our total joint Arthroplasty patients. The team consists of one of the RAAPM staff, a resident and a nurse. With our guidance of patients through the perioperative process, we have been able to both reduce length of stay and increase patient satisfaction. The fellows actively participate in this process as well.
We have been ACGME accredited fellowship since the 2019-2020 academic year. Our fellows spend five days per week with the RAAPM team (4 clinical and 1 academic). Fellows are also expected to participate in an academic project during the fellowship year with the goal of publication and/or presentation at a national conference.

Thank you for your interest in our Regional Anesthesia & Acute Pain Medicine Fellowship Program.
This program commences in August of each year and is 12 months in duration. Applications are accepted beginning December 1st of the preceding year, and interviews are scheduled in the winter.
Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain became an ACGME approved fellowship in 2019. All applicants must be eligible for an unlimited medical license through the Oregon Medical Board. Applicants who are not U.S. citizens must be legally able to work in the U.S. or eligible to obtain authorization to work. J1 visas do not meet this requirement for non-GME training programs.
We offer advanced training in all techniques of orthopedic and Regional Anesthesia (RA). Our patients benefit from a wide range of RA techniques from traditional to cutting edge for surgical anesthesia and/or acute pain control. Fellows are active participants on the RA team. Currently all RA techniques of the upper and lower extremities, as well as truncal blocks, are routinely performed at OHSU. Single-shot blocks and catheters are placed daily for adult and pediatric patients and many of our patients (over 1,500 in 2015) are discharged home with perineural infusions (including interscalene, supra/infraclavicular, femoral, saphenous and sciatic). While the majority of our blocks are placed using ultrasound guidance, fellows will also become proficient using traditional techniques. Fellowship duties are not limited to the placement of neuraxial or peripheral nerve blocks, but also include patient selection and education as well as coordination of the RA team’s daily activities with nursing staff, anesthesia technicians, the pharmacy, surgeons, colleagues and the acute pain service (APS).
Our RA faculty is large and diverse. The majority of our staff are fellowship trained in Regional Anesthesia & Acute Pain or Pain Medicine. We have active basic science, clinical, and education research programs. Our faculty are actively involved in teaching RA at national and international meetings. We have a formal Regional & Acute Pain fellowship curriculum that includes weekly didactics lecture series, Journal Club, cadaver workshops, and utilizes the Anesthesia Education Toolbox (developed here at OHSU). Fellows participate in at least one of the RA team's ongoing research projects, including manuscript preparation and data presentation at department and national meetings. In addition to supervising residents, fellows present formal lectures to anesthesiology residents and medical students.
At the completion of the training, fellows will be able to perform a comprehensive array of RA techniques, set up an ambulatory or hospital-based APS and conduct research to advance the specialty of RA.
This program uses the common application. Submit the completed application directly to the individual Fellowship Program.

Rush University Medical Center offers a formal 12-month fellowship in Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine. This unique experience offers comprehensive perioperative pain management using a full spectrum of techniques via neuraxial and peripheral nerve blocks and catheters. In addition, there will be a novel ‘transitional pain service’ which bridges the gap between acute and chronic pain management. Fellows will complete this formal 12-month fellowship at Rush University Medical Center and satellite locations (One free-standing multidisciplinary surgery center and one brand new 8-OR Orthopedic-focused surgery center).
Fellowship rotations will involve managing multimodal analgesia, neuraxial and peripheral nerve catheters, local anesthetics and narcotic infusion, as well as non-narcotic analgesic adjuvants with emphasis on indications, contraindications, side effects, potential complications and daily management of patients on the Acute Pain Service. Implementation of the newest truncal and abdominal ultrasound-guided nerve blocks will be conducted at the main Rush University Medical Center. In addition, the fellow will be involved with two high-volume surgery centers, allowing them to experience the full gambit of placing highly technical and complex peripheral nerve catheters as well as fast-paced same-day-surgery regional practices.
Several months will be spent learning how to implement and run a ‘transitional pain service.’ This unique opportunity (there are few such programs in the country) allows the continuity in care for managing post-surgical patients who have persistent pain longer than expected, and will involve interacting with a multidisciplinary team of health care providers including multiple national- and internationally recognized faculty. The fellow may have the opportunity to participate in the largest NIH-funded study of acute to chronic pain after surgery.
A scheduled didactic and workshop curriculum will be implemented throughout the year. The fellow will both receive and educate trainees via organized lectures, journal clubs and grand rounds. We currently provide a full regional and cadaver workshop for our residents 2 times per year in which the fellow will play an integral role in both preparing and teaching residents. The fellow will also have the opportunity to participate in dissection with a world renowned anatomist. Fellows will participate in bench and/or clinical research with protected academic time and granted attendance to present at national meetings, such as the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA) and the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA).
Rush University Medical Center will be conducting web-based interviews for regional fellowship in mid to late April through July.

The Andrews Institute Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine Fellowship is a unique one year training opportunity with a private practice outpatient anesthesiology group at the Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, home of world famous orthopedic surgeon Dr. James Andrews. You will learn under the personalized tutelage of Andrews Institute’s medical director, Dr. Greg Hickman and fellowship director Dr. Scott Thomas. There are no residents or other fellows to compete with for procedures and the result is the opportunity to perform more ultrasound-guided nerve blocks and catheters than in any other fellowship in North America. With additional optional clinical research opportunities available via the Andrews Research & Education Foundation, the result is an excellent hybrid between academic and private practice education. Our fellows have the opportunity to make a major immediate impact on whatever private or academic anesthesiology group they decide to join after graduation. Our average fellow performs over 3000 ultrasound-guided nerve blocks for a variety of upper & lower extremity and breast and abdominal surgeries, with over 1300 continuous catheters. When you graduate you will be among the country’s most sought after regional fellowship trained anesthesiologists in an increasingly competitive job market.
Gulf Breeze is also a fabulous place to live, with sugar-white beaches, outdoor activities, a small town and a friendly atmosphere. Pensacola Beach is just a short five minutes away and was recently ranked by Trip Advisor as one of the top ten beaches in the United States. There are no call commitments and no weekends so you will have plenty of opportunity to enjoy all the beauty that the Florida gulf coast has to offer.

Description
The UAB Pain Medicine Fellowship program offers a robust training opportunity in an intimate atmosphere allowing for a great work/life balance. The fellows always exceed ACGME requirements due to a wide variety of clinical and research exposure. The fellows are proactive in their learning by functioning as educators of the principles and techniques they learn during their fellowship. There is strong advocacy for the fellows by all the pain faculty. All fellow graduates are excellent pain medication and interventional pain consultants prepared to enter any practice, private or academic, independently and almost all graduates join their first job choice. The pain medicine fellowship program consists of twelve months of post-graduate training after satisfactory completion of a residency program in anesthesiology, neurology, or physical medicine and rehabilitation. The fellowship program is accredited by the ACGME within the department of anesthesiology and perioperative medicine. Pain fellows must obtain satisfactory evaluations in their primary and elective rotations leading to board certification in pain medicine by the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). The division of pain medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham specializes in the multidisciplinary treatment of patients with acute, chronic, and cancer pain. Our primary goal is providing quality patient care in a setting that utilizes the resources of a large, academic institution. Located in the UAB Highlands facility, the Pain Treatment Clinic hosts 10,000 patient visits per year, including over 1,000 new patient evaluations and approximately 5,000 interventional pain procedures each year. Our division works closely in collaboration with the departments of PM&R, orthopedics, neurology, psychiatry, and palliative care to provide comprehensive care for our patients.
All applications to this program are to be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service® (ERAS®).

The RAAPM program at UAB specializes in peri-operative management of patients receiving peripheral nerve or neuraxial blockade for anesthesia and/or acute post-operative analgesia. Our primary goal is to provide high quality patient care and effective management of acute pain for patients undergoing surgery. Our program provides acute pain management for patients undergoing orthopedic, pediatrics, trauma, thoracic, vascular, plastic and general surgery. The program performs approximately 5,000 peripheral nerve blocks and 1,000 neuraxial blocks for acute post-operative pain treatment each year.
Fellowship training is designed to develop expertise in the practice and theory of regional anesthesia and acute pain management techniques. The program emphasizes pre-operative assessment, patient selection, patient education and in-depth understanding of physiology and pharmacology in the provision of patient care. Fellowship training includes rotations in Obstetric and Inpatient Pain Service anesthesia.
Our comprehensive didactic program includes departmental grand rounds, journal club, and weekly lecture series. We also host an annual Ultrasound Guided Regional Anesthesia workshop as an integrated part of our department’s annual Anesthesiology Review Course. Fellow participation in clinical research and presentation at national/regional meetings are strongly encouraged.

The University of Alberta Hospital is one of the leading centers in Canada in ultrasound-guided regional anesthesia. The Acute Pain Service group, an enthusiastic team of 10 anesthesiologists and support staff, provide guidance and tuition in all aspects of Acute Pain Medicine, with an emphasis on ultrasound imaging for nerve plexus and regional anesthesia. Many of our anesthesiologists teach, or have taught ultrasound imaging at national and international regional anesthesia workshops/conferences. We typically support 1-2 fellows per year.
We have a dedicated, three-bay, fully equipped and supported regional block area within the Operating Room Complex, where regional anesthesia modalities are initiated before surgery. We perform approximately 30-50 blocks per week; and manage postoperative pain in patients who have a perineural or epidural catheter, or a complex pain history. We also have a established Home Regional Program.
Program Structure
The Fellowship is structured with equal time allocated to Clinical and Fellowship components.
The Fellowship component is devoted to supervised subspecialty training, research and teaching. Fellows can expect to gain proficiency in single-shot and catheter-based regional anesthetic techniques for upper and lower extremity surgeries; and in addition, to truncal blocks for abdominal and thoracic procedures. As active members of the Acute Pain Service, fellows contribute to resident education as they rotate through the service; and participation in the day- to-day management of our pain patients is expected. The initiation and completion of a research project is an integral part of the Fellowship. Guidance with project preparation will be provided. Findings, regardless of completion, are presented at the annual Research Day, which is held in late spring each year.
The Clinical component incorporates duties expected of the anesthesia staff at the University Hospital: anesthesia delivery in the operative setting, provision of outpatient clinic consultations, teaching of medical students and residents, and participation in the general on-call rota. The University of Alberta Hospital is the quaternary referral center for many disciplines in Western Canada, and fellows can expect to meet a diverse mix of challenging cases during their time with us.
Candidates are required to have completed specialty training prior to commencement of fellowship, to a level equivalent to Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada certification. Candidates must be eligible for specialist registration with CPSA, either by having FRCPC or by completing a 3-month practice readiness assessment (3 months practice readiness assessment, 9 months with equal clinical and fellowship components as outlined above), and have English language proficiency. Further information for CPSA registration can be found here: https://cpsa.ca/physicians/registration/
To apply, please email your CV together with your personal statement outlining your regional fellowship intent.
