April 2023: Sayed Wahezi
April’s Member Spotlight shines on Sayed Wahezi, MD, from Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Montefiore in the Bronx, New York. Lynn Kohan, MD, nominated Dr. Wahezi because of his outstanding commitment to pain education and research.
Dr. Wahezi is a professor in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R), anesthesiology, and orthopedic surgery and serves as program director for the ACGME-accredited pain medicine fellowship. He received his MD from the State University of New York at Buffalo, completed his residency in PM&R at Albert Einstein College of Medicine at Montefiore, and then went on to complete an interventional spine and musculoskeletal fellowship at Spine Technology and Rehabilitation.
Dr. Wahezi recently served as president of the Association of Pain Program Directors (APPD). In his nomination, Dr. Kohan wrote, “he worked passionately to further the collaboration between ASRA Pain Medicine and the APPD to help advance and lead a new generation of young leaders.” To further exemplify his commitment, Dr. Wahezi is working with the 22nd Annual Pain Medicine Meeting Planning Committee to bring an interventional pain management course and workshop for fellows to the 2023 fall meeting.
Dr. Wahezi has presented lectures for ASRA Pain Medicine as well as the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, American Academy of Pain Medicine, and other prominent meetings. In addition, he has several impressive publications, has served on various committees, and continues to advance the field through research.
“He is an asset to any organization he is a part of,” Dr. Kohan concluded.
