September’s Membership Spotlight showcases Danielle Ludwin, MD, nominated by Mary Hargett. Dr. Ludwin is currently professor of anesthesiology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC), associate attending at New York Presbyterian Hospital, and program director of the Regional Anesthesia & Acute Pain Medicine (RAAPM) Fellowship at CUIMC.

“Danielle has been active in ASRA [Pain Medicine] for many years, presenting lectures and teaching workshops,” Ms. Hargett states. “She is also active in several other societies, often serving as presenting faculty for their meetings. She has been another leader in the Regional Fellowship Directors Group for many years.”

In 2002, Dr. Ludwin received her medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in New Brunswick, NJ. She completed an internship at the Georgetown University Department of Medicine in Washington, DC, in 2003, an anesthesiology residency at Cornell University in New York, NY, in 2006, and a regional anesthesiology fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York, NY, in 2007.

A recipient of many prestigious awards, Dr. Ludwin received the Chair’s Award for exceptional service to the department at CUIMC and has been recognized for outstanding teaching by being inducted into the Virginia Apgar Academy of Medical Educators.

Dr. Ludwin is a proud member of many professional societies, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the International Anesthesia Research Society, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, the New York State Society of Anesthesiologists, and the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine’s Action Collaborative on Preventing Sexual Harassment.

Dr. Ludwin is an academic journal reviewer for Regional Anesthesia & Pain Medicine and Anesthesia & Analgesia. She is an active committee member for many organizations at CUIMC, including the Service Executive Committee, Promotions Committee, Clinical Competence Committee, Grand Rounds/Visiting Professor Committee, Simulation Committee, Resident Education Committee, Resident Recruitment Committee, and chairs the Fellowship Program Evaluation Committee. Dr. Ludwin has served on the Dean’s Office Committee to Address Structural Racism, the Dean’s Advisory Committee for Women Faculty, and the Dean’s Office Working Group for Civility and Professionalism.

Dr. Ludwin frequently presents at the ASRA Pain Medicine spring meetings and lectured on regional anesthesia at the World Congress of Anesthesiology in 2024.
