November 2022: Vasudha Goel
Vasudha Goel, MBBS, MS, is our Member Spotlight for November. Dr. Goel is an associate professor at the University of Minnesota (U of M) with a particularly strong interest in cancer pain. She is also an active volunteer in ASRA Pain Medicine, serving as faculty, vice-chair of the Cancer Pain and Supportive Care Special Interest Group, and a member of the Website & Social Media Committee.
Dr. Goel obtained her medical training with focus on pediatric, surgery, radiology, and emergency medicine at the Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University in Chennai, India, before coming to Brooklyn, NY, to study at the State University of New York (SUNY). She completed her residency in anesthesiology at SUNY and a fellowship in pain management at Loma Linda University Medical Center in Loma Linda, CA. She is currently completing an MS at the U of M where she also serves as site director for the department of anesthesiology’s Pain Medicine Fellowship Program.
“Dr. Goel’s devotion to caring for her patients and advocating for education within the field of pain medicine is noteworthy!” said nominator Lynn Kohan, MD. “She is an emerging leader within the field of pain medicine.”
Dr. Goel developed the cancer pain program within her institution’s pain division as well as creating the intrathecal drug delivery program to be able to better provide advanced care to patients suffering from cancer related pain.
Her past experience includes serving as an assistant professor at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, as well as an assistant professor, clinical scholar in the division of pain medicine at Banner University of Arizona Medical Center in Tucson. She has presented a number of oral and poster presentations at national and international conferences and has a lengthy list of peer-reviewed publications to her name.
