Live Webinar
This webinar is an American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery (AAOS) Member Benefit. AAOS and ASRA Pain Medicine members may attend for free.
Description: In this 60-minute webinar we will discuss the pre-, intra-, and postoperative management of patients who take buprenorphine and the practical issues that arise. Particular attention will be paid to recommendations for surgeons and what they need to know.
Learning Objectives:
- Explain why continuation of buprenorphine perioperatively is appropriate for most patients and the risks of preoperative discontinuation.
- Examine recommendations and clinical considerations for multimodal, nonopioid analgesics in the perioperative period for patients taking buprenorphine.
- Describe best practice for ensuring that the buprenorphine prescriber resumes care of the patient shortly after surgery and when a call to the prescribing physician is needed.
