The University of Washington’s Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine offers three non-ACGME-accredited one-year fellowship positions in Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine. The program is designed to develop expert regional anesthesiologists prepared for academic careers or high-acuity private practice. This fellowship is based primarily at the University of Washington’s two flagship teaching hospitals – UWMC and Harborview – providing fellows with unparalleled exposure to a diverse, complex, and high-acuity patient population. Fellows gain extensive experience in advanced regional practice, and the care of patients undergoing complex surgical procedures, including major trauma. Fellows dedicate 60% of their time to advanced clinical regional practice, resident education, and scholarly activity. The remaining 40% is spent as an Acting Instructor faculty member, allowing fellows to gain experience in independent general anesthesia practice and in supervising anesthesia residents and CRNA’s, fostering both clinical confidence and academic leadership.
Our fellowship is structured in alignment with ACGME Regional Anesthesia guidelines, although it is not anticipated to be ACGME-accredited for the upcoming academic year. Applicants must be eligible for an unrestricted Washington State medical license and be board-eligible or board-certified in anesthesiology. This program participates in SF Match.
