Ochsner Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine (RAAPM) Fellowship
The Ochsner RAAPM Fellowship is a prestigious, one-year ACGME-accredited program based in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana. Since its initial accreditation during the 2019–2020 academic year, the fellowship has been dedicated to providing exceptional training in regional anesthesia and acute pain management across diverse surgical specialties.
Clinical Experience
Fellows in the program acquire extensive, hands-on experience with a wide range of peripheral and neuraxial nerve block techniques, including single-shot and continuous methods. Training spans multiple surgical specialties such as orthopedic, thoracic, general, vascular, and pediatric surgeries, offered in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
A distinctive feature of the fellowship is its involvement in innovative programs like the Home Catheter Program and the Perioperative Surgical Home initiative for total joint arthroplasty patients. These initiatives have demonstrated significant benefits, including shorter hospital stays and enhanced patient satisfaction.
Academic Opportunities
The Ochsner RAAPM Fellowship emphasizes academic and scholarly growth. Fellows benefit from:
- A dedicated academic day for literature review and in-depth case discussions.
- A bi-monthly journal club to engage with peers and faculty on emerging research.
- A structured research component, with an expectation to produce work suitable for publication or presentation at national conferences.
