ASRA Pain Medicine Update

August 2026 Featured Member: Dr. Daniel J. Pan

Meet the Resident & Fellow Committee (RFC) Featured Member for August, Daniel J. Pan, MD, a physical medicine and rehabilitation resident at the University of Michigan and member of the RFC Membership Subcommittee!

Dr. Pan joined the RFC for the opportunity to learn more about acute and chronic pain medicine while meeting and collaborating with others who share his passion for the field. His primary role has been recruiting new Residency Program Liaisons who help connect trainees across the country with ASRA Pain Medicine and the RFC.

The most rewarding part? Watching the Liaison Program grow and helping more residents discover ASRA Pain Medicine’s educational, mentorship, and leadership opportunities.

Dr. Pan believes pain medicine can help him become a more well-rounded physiatrist, giving him additional ways to help patients reduce pain, improve function, and achieve the goals that matter most to them. His volunteer work in teaching, mentorship, and education has also sparked a passion for teaching, and he plans to pursue a career in academic medicine after completing his training.

His favorite ASRA Pain Medicine memory is making many new friends at #ASRASPRING26, and he can’t wait to see many of them again in Tampa, FL, this November for #ASRAFALL26!

One more fun fact: With no physicians in his family, Dr. Pan knew by fourth grade that he wanted to become the first. His other childhood dream was to become a food critic so he could eat great food for a living. Honestly, we think both sound like pretty good career choices!
