CME accreditation

ACCME AccreditedThe American Society for Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.

Purpose

The American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine is committed to improving the science and practice of regional anesthesia and pain medicine by providing the latest evidence-based, clinically applicable continuing medical education (CME).  ASRA Pain Medicine supports the lifelong learning of those participating in its CME activities through quality continuing education designed to facilitate measurable changes in knowledge, competence and performance, thus contributing to excellence in patient care and improved patient outcomes.

Content areas

ASRA Pain Medicine CME program content is derived from the identified professional practice gaps and educational needs of its learners, as well as related desirable physician attributes. Content areas will include clinical practice guidelines, current research findings, latest technologies and techniques, and practice management concepts relevant to the optimal application of regional anesthesia and pain medicine in the clinical setting.  ASRA Pain Medicine will present scientifically valid and commercially unbiased CME content.

Target audience

The ASRA Pain Medicine CME program provides educational activities to physicians, residents, fellows, and scientists.  ASRA Pain Medicine supports a multi-disciplinary and inter-professional approach to continuing education and patient care by also providing relevant education for other healthcare professionals not directly engaging in interventional regional anesthesia and/or pain medicine procedures. ASRA Pain Medicine offers learning opportunities to the national and international healthcare community.

Types of activities

ASRA Pain Medicine specializes in offering high-quality educational activities. ASRA Pain Medicine CME formats are designed utilizing the principles of effective adult learning in order to best achieve the activity’s educational objectives. Formats include innovative and hands-on learning such as cadaver/live model workshops, problem-based learning discussions, pro/con debates, eLearning and other blended learning, and other interactive formats. Through strategic partnerships, ASRA Pain Medicine provides maintenance of certification approved CME, enduring materials, and other educational initiatives to support physicians’ continuing professional development. A wide variety of additional educational support materials are available online, such as presentations, research abstracts/posters, journal access, consensus guidelines, and video tutorials.

Expected results

Through its quality CME program and collaborations with external partners who support and share its CME mission, ASRA Pain Medicine will promote positive changes in knowledge, competence and performance in the science and clinical practice of regional anesthesia and pain medicine, thus contributing to excellence in patient care and improved patient outcomes. ASRA Pain Medicine will evaluate and assess achievement of the expected results both on an activity and overall CME program level.
